Vodafone Spain (VfS) flagged the implementation of digital services in Lalín in Pontevedra, Galicia, as part of the SmartLalín project. The smart‑city project aims to improve the quality of public services and the quality of life for citizens, and boost potential for tourism. New services so far include a smart‑parking solution involving the use of sensors and cameras, deployed in municipal car parks; a digital signage system to help drivers find available parking spaces more quickly; and a public Wi‑Fi network, with more to follow. All services are connected to a Vodafone SmartCities platform, described as a cloud‑based Internet of Things solution for operating and managing intelligent cities. Lalín is said to have awarded the project to VfS following a public tender, with a budget of around €223,000 (£189,000). VfS did not name any technology partners involved in the project.
