Jockey Club

Former BT Sport and BT TV Managing Director Delia Bushell has been appointed Group Chief Executive of British commercial horse racing organisation The Jockey Club.

Bushell was the MD of BT Sport and BT TV between 2014 and 2017, where she was responsible for acquiring premium sports and entertainments rights, such as Netflix for BT TV, and the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Premiership Rugby for BT Sport.

Luis Alvarez

ngena, the Deutsche Telekom- (DT) led and Cisco-gestated Next Generation Enterprise Network Alliance (Deutsche Telekomwatch, passim), appointed Luis Alvarez, former Chief Executive (CEO) of BT Global, and other industry heavyweights to its new Advisory Board.

ngena, which is ostensibly configured as an international federation of SD-WAN interconnected service providers (including BT Global), appears to be undergoing something of an Accenture-flavoured reboot, including new co-Managing Director Bart de Graaff and redoubling of Americas ambitions. Rather surprisingly, the business appeared recently to lose an anchor tenant in DT’s also-under-reconfiguration T-Systems counterpart to BT Global.

BT veteran Alvarez departed in 2017, playing fall-guy for the Italian accounting scandal and BT Global’s continuing underperformance. Alvarez is now also strategic adviser to mobile security startup Wandera.

Gavin Patterson

Former Group Chief Executive Gavin Patterson was named Chairman of Salesforce’s EMEA business. He is expected to spend several days a week with Salesforce in the newly created role, focused on strategic oversight and advising on regulatory issues. Patterson’s contacts across the highest echelons of major European corporations are said to have appealed to his new employer.

BT Group is one of Salesforce’s major European customers and was recently identified as a key partner in BT’s IT transformation programme, which looks set to offer a blueprint for change across the entire Group (see separate report).

In 2018, Salesforce indicated that it is to undertake a five-year, £1.9bn investment programme in the UK, and it recently named Jayne-Anne Gadhia, former Chief Executive of Virgin Money, to lead the UK operation of the expanding enterprise cloud platform provider.

Patterson, who left the telco near the beginning of 2019, has indicated that he is intending to take up “multiple sources of work” for his post-BT career.
