Vodafone cemented its relationship with Partner Markets member Vodafone Ukraine, despite Azerbaijani telco Bakcell’s recent acquisition of the business from Russia’s MTS Group (Vodafonewatch, #181). The operators said they had extended their partnership, although without revealing the length of the deal. Beyond extended use of Group branding, the relationship appears set to see Vodafone Ukraine expand assimilation of Vodafone products and services. The two operators recently highlighted roll out of a managed connectivity service called IoTMonitor, based on Vodafone’s GlobalIoT Platform, and said there was scope in their agreement for “further future collaboration on the digital reform of public services and smart‑city solutions in Ukraine”. Vodafone also continues to provide “strategic and operational, network, and IT support” to the Ukrainian operator. The partnership was last updated in 2015, when MTS — a long‑time, multi‑country Partner Markets ally — enacted a reorganisation of its troubled Ukrainian business and enlisted Vodafone to help (Vodafonewatch, #147).
