Vodafone Egypt (VfEG) and mobile network supplier Ericsson extended an existing partnership with the aim of upgrading the OpCo’s business support systems (BSS) to support 5G and Internet of Things. Ericsson said the OpCo will now be deploying the latest versions of Ericsson Charging and Ericsson Mediation, which form part of the DigitalBSS portfolio it unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2019. VfEg has been using Ericsson BSS solutions since at least 2013, when it selected the Swedish vendor’s Mobile Broadband Charging product. Worth noting is that Ericsson formed a strategic partnership with VfEg partner Red Hat in 2016 in the field of open source solutions. VfEg has deployed IBM‑owned Red Hat’s CloudSuite to overhaul its online services platform (Vodafonewatch, #174).
