Vodafone was among several heavyweight operators to give their backing to 5G Future Forum, yet another collaborative initiative designed to accelerate development of 5G and mobile edge computing-enabled solutions. Vodafone and the Forum’s other founding members – América Móvil, KT, Rogers Communications, Telstra, and Verizon Communications — provide the body with geographical representation in Africa, the Americas, Asia‑Pacific, and Europe. The focus of the collaboration is to create “uniform interoperability specifications”, designed to quicken time-to-market for developers and enterprises working on 5G-enabled solutions that require ultra-low latency times. “These new specifications will allow us to offer services that work consistently across the globe and support devices moving between countries”, said Vinod Kumar, Chief Executive of Vodafone Business. The move chimes with Vodafone Business’ recent tie-up with Amazon Web Services to support edge computing services based on the latter’s AWS Wavelength platform (see separate report).
