- Vodacom Group formed a connected-car partnership with Toyota South Africa Motors, the local subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, as part of its ongoing Internet of Things (IoT) drive.
The deal will see enterprise arm Vodacom Business support deployments of the Toyota Connect in-vehicle “connectivity hub” in all future Lexus and Toyota models that are sold in the country.
South Africa-based technology group Allied Electronics Corporation was also involved in the tie-up, with fleet management solutions subsidiary Netstar helping develop Toyota’s IoT platform.
Vodacom recently upped its IoT presence with the (now-approved) 51%-buyout of local platform and service provider IoT.nxt (Vodafonewatch, #174).
