Package delivery platform (and Safaricom investment) Sendy raised $20m (£15.4m/€18.5m) in a Series‑B funding round, led by Atlantica Ventures and Toyota Tsusho, the car manufacturer’s trading arm. Mesh Alloys, Chief Executive of Sendy, said the round will help the business expand into west Africa during 2020, expanding on its 5,000‑vehicle roster in Kenya and neighbouring markets. Toyota’s involvement in the round is said to include a research and development arrangement. In 2015, when in its early stages, Sendy was the recipient of an undisclosed investment from Safaricom’s Spark Venture Fund (Vodafonewatch, #139), and its drivers are equipped with the operator’s M‑PESA m‑payments platform.
