- Germany: Markus Agel, Director of Wholesale & Partnership at Telefónica Deutschland (O2 Germany), was appointed Director of Business Transformation at the operator.
- Boris Goncharov, O2 Germany’s Director for Business-to-Business (B2B) Sales, left the Group to join health-tech services provider DOCTOLIB as Vice-President (VP) for Sales & Partnerships. He spent five years at O2 Germany, during which time he “founded and scaled” Telefónica Business Sales, a B2B corporate startup established within O2 Germany. Lars Körner stepped up as Managing Director of the startup and took a new title as General Sales Manager for Inside Sales, New Channels. He was previously General Sales Manager for Customer Base at the operator. Mareike Mesloh, formerly joint-Managing Director at Telefónica Business Sales alongside Goncharov, pivoted into a Manager role at the unit.
Telefónica Business Sales became an O2 Germany “sales partner” for small- and medium-size businesses in 2020 and operates as a semi-independent sales outfit. It aims to foster a startup mentality with the backing of its partner operating business. In early-2021, the unit absorbed Telefónica NEXT, O2 Germany’s erstwhile data analytics and Internet of Things spin-out (Telefónicawatch, #150 and #152).

Her move comes just a month after the launch of Telefónica Renting, a new joint venture between the two businesses. Perea was named Managing Director at hotel bookings marketplace Roiback. A replacement at Telefónica Consumer Finance has not been named.
It remains to be seen whether and how Telefónica Consumer Finance will continue operating following the creation of Telefónica Renting, another Caixa Bank JV established in September 2022. Perea referenced her role in Telefónica Renting’s launch as a highlight of her time at Telefónica, calling it a “challenge where data, digitalisation, but, above all, people and their perseverance have been the key to success”.
- Telefónica España reportedly established a new Digital Channels department and brought in Rafael Sánchez Sendarrubias as frontman. The new Head of Digital Channels was previously Chief Customer Officer at grocers Dia España, before which he was Director of E-Commerce at Dia rival Carrefour España, having spent 18 years in the retail sector.
At Telefónica España Sánchez will lead a newly-formed Digital Channels department. Reporting to Chief B2C Officer Oscar Candiles, he is tasked with leading the ongoing transformation of the operator’s digital channels and customer experience improvement programme. A Cinco Días report reiterated that Telefónica España, like rivals, sees the channels as a key differentiator in the ever-competitive Spanish consumer market. Use of the operator’s digital channels is growing. Telefónica’s Annual Report for 2021 showed that some 2.77 million customers used the digital channels (77%), as opposed to 805,000 customers calling the contact centre. In 2020, the operator recorded 72% were using digital, and 67% the year before that. The operator did not define how regularly users needed to turn to digital platforms in order to be bracketed within that group, however.

Hispanomérica
- Telefónica reorganised the corporate leadership of its Hispanaomérica division, with a new chair and refreshed Board of Directors, reflecting the Group’s tighter management and oversight of its disparate regional businesses. Foremost among the changes was the appointment of Hispam CEO Alfonso Gómez Palacio as Chairman. He replaces Miguel Iglesias, Tax Director for Latin America at Telefónica Group, in a move indicating the operator wants a broader lens on Hispam activities beyond mere financial affairs. Elena Maestre, Hispam Chief Financial & Strategy Officer, and Martha Elena Ruiz, Hispam General Secretary, have been appointed to the board as Vice-Chair and Secretary respectively. Alejandrina Patiño, Corporate Counsel at Telefónica, has been named Deputy Secretary. Javier Campillo (Director of Capital Markets & Treasury) and Diego Colchero (Telefónica Tech General Counsel) both stepped down from the board.
Other directors on the Hispam board include Nicolás Diez and Omar Cerrón Santisteban, CEO and Chief Financial Officer respectively at PangeaCo, Telefónica Hispam’s wholly-owned Peruvian FibreCo. The pair were added in early-2022. Also helping oversee the division are Jose Miguel Hernández Rabbat, Telefónica Group Corporate Treasury for Financial Entities & Operations, and Pedro Cortez Rojas, CEO at Telefónica Peru.
Citing sources close to Telefónica, Cinco Días reported that the changes were made to reflect a more direct line of management between the board and Hispam operations. Handing increased corporate leadership to divisional heads is a policy also implemented at other Group units. Telefónica Tech, which appointed its CEO José Cerdán as Chair in October last year, rolled out a similar model at security services unit Telefónica Ingeniería de Seguridad in January 2022. There, CEO Fabíán Blanco was named Chairman, while Cerdán and Group Executive Committee members Chema Alonso were among those to step down.
- Myriam Porras was appointed Chief Analytics Officer at Telefónica Hispam, an apparent partial replacement for the VM O2-bound Maximiliano Salevsky (see above). Porras was Chief Data Officer at the regional division before the change, having joined Telefónica after two decades in the banking sector.

He was Senior Technology Consultant at Capgemini before the move, having left Telefónica in 2021 where he spent 14 years, most recently as Head of Future Readiness within the Group Devices Unit.
- Former HR Director Aisling Teillard at O2 Ireland was added to the Executive Team at cloud-based rewards solutions provider Beqom, where she was named Chief Customer Officer. She left Telefónica in 2015 after nine years at the operator. She has been CEO at workplace experience services specialist Our Tandem in the years since.
