Colombia-based airline Avianca expanded its relationship with Telefónica Business Solutions (TBS), opting for further digital services from the business‑to-business solutions provider.

Primarily a digital security arrangement, Telefónica will deploy services in five countries, and integrate a new reputation solution to assess the potential threats and risks associated with incoming Internet Protocol addresses. The TBS implementation will leverage the Akamai Intelligent Platform to manage network traffic and minimise risk for the airline.

TBS and Avianca signed an agreement in June 2018 to deploy a range of digital services across 27 countries. The deal included infrastructure support, digital security, and the integration of a unified communications solution (Telefónicawatch, #128). The relationship between Telefónica and the airline started in 2015, when the former became Avianca’s telecoms provider internationally, including the oversight of a network overhaul (Telefónicawatch, #96).
