  • Telefónica Open Future said 54 startups had joined its Argentinian programme, run via six hubs in the country. Though the businesses vary significantly in focus, most offer Internet of Things solutions, educational tools, or gaming products. The selected startups will be offered support for scaling, mentoring, and networking with investors.
  • US telecoms solution provider Comtech Telecommunications highlighted a contract renewal with Telefónica, focused on device location technology to underpin machine‑to-machine communications and other services. The deal adds to a Latin American remote backhaul engagement Comtech flagged with Telefónica International Wholesale Services in 2019 (Telefónicawatch, #139).
  • Spain: Telefónica España highlighted its role in networking up LaTorreOutlet, a new high‑tech shopping centre set to open in Zaragoza during October 2020. Telefónica is said to be a “strategic partner” of the mall, providing connectivity, infrastructure, and services. Javier Zorrilla, Director of Telefónica’s North Region, said the project had drawn on experience from across “practically the entire Telefónica Group, with Telefónica Tech’s IoT unit particularly involved in supporting the project.
