- T‑Mobile US (TMUS) agreed a go-to-market tie‑up with Quibi, a high-profile mobile video startup that is due to release services in April 2020.
The deal will see TMUS act as the “exclusive wireless distributor” for Quibi — although customers of any operator will be able to use the offering. The NatCo appears set to integrate the Quibi service — comprising subscription-based access to ‘bite-size’ video content — within mobile plans, but did not mention whether the partnership might also play into its own long-awaited, multi-screen video platform T‑Mobile TV.
Quibi Chief Executive (and former eBay head) Meg Whitman called TMUS a “perfect fit” for the startup’s offering of “premium video content for millennials”. John Legere sought to emphasise Quibi and TMUS’ kinship as “two mobile-centric disruptors committed to challenging the status quo and giving customers incredible experiences”.
