Telekom Deutschland (TDE) trumpeted the launch of new Internet of Things (IoT) tariffs for small‑ and medium‑size enterprises (SME).

Called Business Smart Connect, the plans offer pre‑activated SIM cards and a service portal developed by TDE partner 1NCE (Deutsche Telekomwatch, #71). The SIM cards are designed for use in sensors, trackers, and other IoT devices to support applications such as smart parking and intelligent waste management.

TDE said the service can be used across the European Union and, depending on the plan, make use of 2G, 4G, and NarrowbandIoT (NB‑IoT) connectivity. NB‑IoT roaming — currently available in Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Slovakia — and 2G connectivity are included in Business Smart Connect LPWA tariffs, while 2G/LTE connectivity is provided with Business Smart Connect M2M.
