T‑Systems (T‑Sys) was able to ramp up the computing power of public cloud offering Open Telekom Cloud after the Höchstleistungsrechenzentrum Stuttgart (High‑Performance Computing Centre Stuttgart/HLRS) brought its new Hawk ‘supercomputer’ online. Hawk — which was made by Hewlett‑Packard Enterprise, and is said to be among the fastest computers worldwide — is now accessible to public cloud customers of T‑Sys via an online portal. According to HLRS, Hawk will enable new kinds of workflows that combine data generation, simulation, big data analysis, and deep learning. Local and national government in Germany apparently provided a whopping €38m to fund Hawk within the umbrella of the SiVeGCS project — a federal‑ and state‑funded high-performance computing development programme running from 2017 to 2025.
