Magyar Telekom (MT HU) was fined HUF 350m (€1m) by competition authority Gazdasági Versenyhivatal (GVH) for misinforming customers about the maximum speed provided by its network. The GVH considered use of the term “maximum speed” during the NatCo’s early-2018 MostGeneration campaign misleading because these speeds could only be reached by a certain proportion of MT HU’s subscriber base. The competition authority said it had, “for the first time”, applied a “tiered, conditional” fine, which will limit the levy to HUF 100m if MT HU compensates customers that signed up during the campaign period or in the two months after, by modifying their contract length and providing them with 3GB of free data.
