Magenta Telekom is providing Narrowband Internet of Things (NB‑IoT) connectivity in Austria for a rollout of connected products and services by tool maker Stanley Black & Decker. Ericsson is also collaborating on the project, providing its IoT Accelerator connectivity and device management platform for use outside of Austria. Use‑cases for the project include: connecting heavy excavators for predictive maintenance; tracking and productivity monitoring; connected security infrastructure for software updates; and intruder detection and alerts. The project has already seen the deployment of a connected solar pump produced by Stanley Black & Decker for a farming project in India, which delivers 100,000 litres of water a day for higher crop yields and can be managed from a mobile phone.
