Deutsche Telekom (DT) secured a US patent on a method for synthetic data generation. Synthetic data — artificially manufactured rather than generated by real-world events — is useful for operators in that it can protect data privacy while still offering relevant information that can be analysed to gain useful consumer insights. “[A] purpose of the present invention [is] to provide a platform for generating synthetic data records, based on modelling of actual networks and while preserving privacy”, noted DT in the patent document. The patent, filed in December 2015, relates to a random selection of datasets and specially designed algorithms that generate the synthetic data.
