There were suggestions of a significant drop in the pace at which premises were passed with Openreach fibre during February 2020. According to ThinkBroadband estimates, about 20,000 additional premises per week were passed by the network during the month, compared with roughly 26,000 in January 2020. The reason behind the fall was not clear, although adverse weather conditions, with a series of storms across the country during the month, may be one explanation. The rate of rollout may once again be affected as the impact of coronavirus on BT and Openreach operations takes its toll in March 2020 and beyond (see separate report).
