BT is reportedly taking another stab at migrating BTYahoo! email users away from legacy Yahoo! accounts in a trial limited to a small number of customers. ISPreview reported that the trial is being supported by cloud service and software provider Synchronoss Technologies, with which BT Consumer has an ongoing relationship (BTwatch, #274 and #303). BT will be hoping to improve on an earlier migration in 2014, which led to high‑profile data security problems (BTwatch, #253). News of another attempt to move customers away from legacy Yahoo! accounts came as UK regulator Ofcom pledged to investigate what providers can charge for maintaining email domains after a customer migrates their broadband service. Many providers, including BT, charge internet ex‑customers a monthly fee to retain access to legacy domains (BT currently charges £7.50 per-month).
