BT Group teamed up with heavyweight counterparts from Asia and Europe to develop standardised multi‑access edge computing (MEC) networks. Creating a “federation of interconnected operators” to engage with developers and encourage edge service creation is the near- to mid‑term goal of the TelcoEdge Cloud grouping, which includes China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom (DT), KDDI, Orange, Singtel, SK Telecom (SKT), Telefónica Group, and Telecom Italia (TIM). Complementing the agreement is the GSM Association’s newly launched Operator Platform, to be developed in 2020. It is intended to make available local operator assets and capabilities to app developers and software vendors. BT also threw its hat into the ring of another edge cloud alliance, called TelecomEdge CloudTF. Other founding members are China Unicom, DT, KDDI, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, Telefonica, Singtel, SKT, and TIM.
