Vodafone UK (VfUK) launched a suite of Internetof Things (IoT) smart surveillance solutions, called SmartVision. The “5G‑ready” offerings, which operate via VfUK’s IoT network, were developed in partnership with smart surveillance provider Digital Barriers. Purported benefits include: video streaming at bandwidth as low as 9Kbps, compared with other cameras that require 600Kbps–1.5Mbps; secure video streaming with reduced risk of cyberattacks; and the ability to disable devices. The first products to be released were the BodywornVision camera and CityVision surveillance solution. BodywornVision enables frontline operators to record, stream, and retrieve high‑definition (HD) footage. The CityVision solution is a connected digital encoder that can be fitted to an organisation’s existing surveillance system to capture footage in HD and stream live incidents.
