Vodafone continued to work on development of drone technology, completing a 5G‑enabled flight in Benidorm, Spain. The test, conducted by Vodafone Spain (VfS) in partnership with Valencia’s Polytechnic University and the Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies near Sevilla, saw medicine transported from the tourist town to the Island of Benidorm, 4km away — highlighting drones’ benefits for medical emergencies, where speed is a priority. Santiago Tenorio, Head of Network Strategy & Architecture at Vodafone, said the test proves that 5G, with its lower latency, will be an “enabler of a faster and more efficient emergency service”. VfS said it hopes to leverage urban drone flights for a variety of use‑cases.
