Vodafone Ireland (VfIr) was ordered to refund more than 70,000 pay‑as-you‑go customers in excess of €400,000 (£340,505). Telecoms regulator ComReg made the ruling after finding VfIr had failed to comply with customer information requirements over an 18‑month period to March 2018. Customers who had topped up by €20–€30 within 28 days of their last airtime refresh were not made aware that doing so would start a new offer cycle and wipe out any outstanding allowances. In its undertaking with the regulator, VfIr agreed to clearly inform customers in their contract at the point of sale, and subsequent text messages, of the offer’s terms. The refund to customers will be distributed through call credits by April 2020.
