- OpCo appoints “transformational leader” as it pushes into the realm of becoming digital services specialist.
Vodacom Lesotho hired Mohale Ralebitso as Managing Director, to fill a vacancy left by the departure of Philip Fofie Amoateng earlier this year.
The appointment — effective from 1 June — will see Ralebitso report to Diego Gutierrez, Chief Operating Officer of International Business at Vodacom Group.
Ralebitso will be responsible for providing “strategic leadership and oversight of Vodacom Lesotho operations” and strategic initiatives, such as improving the provision of new digital services (aligned with a broader Group plan of transitioning from “telco” to “Techco” — Vodafonewatch, passim).
For reasons that are not entirely clear, Amoateng left VdL in March, having occupied the MD position for just under two-and-a-half years. Amoateng was initially replaced on a three-month interim basis by Travis Goate, Commercial Director for VdL’s Consumer & Enterprise businesses (Vodafonewatch, #196).
Ralebitso, an external hire, was framed by an announcement as a “transformational business leader”. He has over two decades of experience in the fields of telecoms, marketing, and financial services. Previous senior posts include:
- Managing Executive at Absa Private Bank (2008–2013).
- Director for Marketing Communications & Corporate Affairs at Old Mutual Emerging Markets (2011–2013).
- Chief Executive (CEO) of the Black Business Council (2015–2016).
He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board at Wunderman Thompson, and is also the CEO and co-founder of investments holding and management consultancy Ralco Investments.
