Celcom Axiata Berhad partnered with Telefónica Tech as it looks to boost its cybersecurity portfolio.

The Malaysian operator aims to become an integrated ICT service provider, and hopes the partnership will strengthen its position in delivering solutions across the country.

To cement the new partnership, the companies have launched two cyber threat solutions. Digital Risk Protection is designed “to identify threats and risk associated with digital assets”, while Vulnerability Risk Management “provides analysis for customer assets and the ability to identify potential vulnerabilities in information systems for any organisation”.

In late-July 2020, Telefónica Group named the B2B division of Axiata as its newest Partners Program ally, with plans to develop integrated offerings for a range of industry verticals, highlighting agriculture, energy, mining, and transport.

The agreement focuses on the provision of Telefónica’s three core digital services for major corporates — cloud services, cybersecurity, and IoT/big data — with cybersecurity the initial focus.

Telefónica said this pre-existing agreement will bring “important benefits” to both Celcom and itself, “enhancing a strong strategic relationship between both groups”.

Afizulazha Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer, Technology, Celcom Axiata Berhad said the partnership “will drive digitalisation across local businesses”, supporting digital risk management, which includes “consultation for implementation and precautionary security measures that focuses on prevention, detection, and appropriate response to reduce cyber-attacks”.

The agreement is Telefónica Tech’s third security services-focused partnership in Malaysia in the past 18 months. Earlier in 2021, it teamed with TM ONE, Telekom Malaysia’s public sector and enterprise division, to provide consulting and training to support the Malaysian operator’s security offerings expansion in the country (Telefónicawatch, #153).
