Slovak Telekom moved closer to the possibility of securing more 5G‑enabling spectrum rights after Slovakia’s Úrad pre reguláciu elektronických komunikácií a poštových služieb (Regulatory Office for Electronic Communications and Postal Services/RÚ) launched a public consultation on the terms for awarding frequencies in the 700MHz, 900MHz, 1500MHz, and 1800MHz bands.

The deadline for submissions was 16 September 2019. RÚ has already started the process of liberating 700MHz spectrum, currently used for digital terrestrial television, for 5G (Deutsche Telekomwatch, #80), and expects frequencies in this band to be available from 30 June 2020.

ST has a partial platform for 5G already, having acquired concessions in the 3.7GHz band in five districts of capital city Bratislava in 2017 (Deutsche Telekomwatch, #67).
