ElevenPaths, Telefónica’s cybersecurity business, agreed a “strategic collaboration” with Chronicle, Google Cloud’s cybersecurity solutions subsidiary. The deal is focused on providing managed security analytics services to enterprises in Europe and Latin America. The companies are integrating Chronicle’s security analytics services into ElevenPaths’ managed security offerings, with plans to release new joint offerings later in 2020. Purported benefits for ElevenPaths’ customers include: advanced malware detection; and more effective investigation of incidents, based on longer retention of security data. The agreement was said to reinforce ElevenPaths’ managed security offering, and to capitalise on the increasing volume of security data generated by enterprises, combined with the shortage of trained security professionals. Telefónica provided insight into its approach to developing core digital services within the newly-created Telefónica Tech during its recent results presentation (Telefónicawatch, #139 and #141), with an apparent emphasis on partnering, while putting digital technology to use in-house to demonstrate confidence in its own abilities. Telefónica is also seeking to expand its cybersecurity portfolio in areas including fraud detection and IoT, in target markets both within and outside its existing footprint.
